GIRL GUIDES SHOW 'PROMISE' AT THE LANDSCAPE CENTRE.

Guides, Brownies and Rainbows from South Antrim showed plenty of ‘flower power’ when they visited The Landscape Centre at Donegore to plant a special clematis launched to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the guiding movement.
The Landscape Centre is the only garden centre in Northern Ireland to stock ‘Guiding Promise’ a purple flowering clematis ideal for smaller gardens, which was developed to commemorate 100 years of fun, friendship and good deeds.
Owner Kaye Campbell invited the Guide Groups to plant some of the clematis to mark the centenary and afterwards presented the leaders with some of the plants.
“We know how popular Guiding is in this area and, as we exclusively stock Guiding Promise, we thought it would be a nice idea to invite them to commemorate the birth of an organization that does such good work with young people.
“Guiding Promise has similar qualities to the ideal guide. It is strong, reliable, a good climber and can be trusted to blossom and mature with the right care and attention!” added Kaye.
2010 has marked a year-long celebration of a century of guiding, with special events and ceremonies throughout Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK.
The organization was formed 100 years ago during a rally at Crystal Palace when groups of girls approached Lord Baden-Powell and asked for ‘something like the Scouts’ but for girls.
Lorraine Hamill, the County Commissioner for South Antrim said the new clematis had been aptly named.
“Later this year all the members of girl guiding throughout the UK will be renewing their promise together and we are planning to have the finale of our celebrations in the Templepatrick area. So it is appropriate that this lovely clematis is called ‘The Guiding Promise’.
